Pickups: Week 14

rmeachem

This is our version of the waiver wire. Here we will break down our weekly pickups by the size of the league because, well, it just doesn’t make sense otherwise. As with our Contentious Starts and Sits, please leave comments calling us out or adding to the waivers list. If your thoughts are solid we will stick your words right in the post…

This week to celebrate the holidays (and our new commenting system) we are giving away a 25.00 NFL.com gift certificate to the best Pickups commenter. To enter the contest leave a comment (non-anonymously) about a pickup we are missing or a call we are dead wrong about and why. We will select the winner based on the players output AND your reasoning. Bonus points for being funny. Good luck!

Eight Teams

Robert Meachem – NO, WR – Make that five straight games with a TD reception for Meachem. Regardless of the matchup, Meachem’s a good one to have in your lineup every week now.

Jamaal Charles – KC, RB – Four straight games with a TD and he’s playing against Buffalo’s terrible run defense this week. Expect 100+ yards and at least one score for Charles.

Ten Teams

Davone Bess – MIA, WR – Bess was targeted 14 times in the Dolphins win over the Patriots and caught ten of them for 117 yards and a TD. The Dolphins face a much worse passing defense this week in the Jags, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Bess has another solid performance.

Kenny Britt – TEN, WR – The rookie out of Rutgers scored for the third straight week and has been targeted 25 times over that span. As long as Vince Young continues to play as well as he has been, expect Britt to have a couple more solid games.

Jason Campbell – WAS, QB – Campbell had his first 3 touchdown game and threw for 300+ yards for the second time this season against the Saints on Sunday. It looks like the Redskins want to throw the ball a lot more now, so Campbell should be a good option for those needing a QB.

Twelve Teams

Jerome Harrison – CLE, RB – Harrison may be the Browns new starting RB now that Jamal Lewis is out for the season, but expect him to continue to do more in the receiving department than in the running game like he did this past Sunday. He was targeted 11 times against the Chargers and caught seven of them for 62 yards and two scores.

Fred Davis – WAS, TE – Washington is now using Davis exactly like they used Chris Cooley before he went down. He was targeted nine times in each of the Redskins last two games and he scored in both of them. Look for him to have another good game against Oakland this week.

Brady Quinn – QB, CLE – Quinn’s thrown seven touchdowns and no picks over his last three games, so it looks like he’s starting to figure it out. He’s only going to face one top 20 pass defense the rest of the way (#17 PIT this week), so I’m expecting him to have a strong finish to the season.

  • Jermichael Finley, guy is emerging as a favorite target to Aaron Rodgers and they are a pass happy team. Plus he has a super cool first name.

I'm adding in Hakeem Nix because he's beaten me twice this year, and thus knocked me out of the Playoffs.

As a Skins fan, I would be incredibly worried about the Oakland game. The Skins seem to play to their opponent and I have a feeling Campbell will be a sub par fill-in. He deserves to be here after his last few games, but I am skeptical. Davis has been solid, and I think he is good for a TD next week.

And no, I can't win the gift certificate ... just had to comment on my Skins ...
