Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers
The Chiefs aren’t very good as their 29 point loss to the Chargers demonstrated. Jamaal Charles and ex-Charger Chris Chambers each scored for the Chiefs.
The Chargers’ offense had a breakout game this week. Philip Rivers passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns with no picks. Antonio Gates broke out of his mid-season slump hauling in both of Rivers’ touchdown passes and surpassing the 100 yard mark. LaDainian Tomlinson got in on the fun with two scores as well.
Jacksonville Jaguars at San Francisco 49ers
David Garrard threw for over 300 yards, but could not lead the Jaguars to the end zone.
The 49ers are reemerging as a team on the rise by virtue of Vernon Davis’s breakout year. Davis caught a touchdown on sixty nine yards receiving. He now has six touchdowns in his last six games and is firmly a must-start for the first time in his fantasy career. Frank Gore only had 47 yards of total offense, but did find the end zone.
Arizona Cardinals at Tennessee Titans
As Joe Buck said at the end of the Bears-Vikings broadcast, Matt Leinart lost to Vince Young on the last play of the game for the second time in his football career. In Leinart’s defense, he didn’t play awful, but could not connect with any of his stud wide receivers for a touchdown. Tim Hightower found the end zone and the other Cardinal touchdown was scored on a kick off return.
The Titans have one reason for their five game win streak and he has dreadlocks and runs really fast. Since the Titans’ bye week, Chris Johnson has rushed for 800 yards and seven touchdowns. That is just a five week span. His owners can only hope he doesn’t abandon them when the fantasy playoffs start. Luckily, the Titan’s are actually in the hunt for a wild card and CJ still wants over 2,000 yards rushing for the season.
Chicago Bears at Minnesota Vikings
Jay Cutler has become fantasy poison to all Bears players. Matt Forte is not much more than an after-thought in their offense and no wide receiver has established themselves as Cutler’s go to target week in and week out.
I predicted at the beginning of the year that Brett Favre would be a top ten fantasy quarterback this year, so I am not overly surprised by his performance in 2009; however, he has become fantasy gold of late. He threw for 392 yards and three touchdowns against the Bears. He now has twenty-one touchdowns on the year to just three interceptions. Compared to the quarterback of the league’s “most prolific” offense, Drew Brees has nine interceptions and twenty-two touchdowns going into his Monday night matchup with the Patriots.
