We break down our weekly pickups by the size of the league because, well, it just doesn’t make sense otherwise. As with our Contentious Starts and Sits, please leave comments calling us out or adding to the list. If your thoughts are solid we will stick you words right in the post…
Eight Teams
Matt Hasselbeck – SEA, QB – Hasselbeck has posted his first two 300+ yard games of the season the past two weeks. It looks like he is getting back to ‘07 form, which would be nice for anyone who needs a QB and has Hasselbeck available in their league.
Steve Breaston – ARI, WR – Even with Anquan Boldin returning from injury on Sunday, Breaston was still targeted six times and he scored a touchdown. This was his second straight week with a TD. He might be third on Arizona’s depth chart, but that hasn’t stopped him from having a solid season.
Ten Teams
Justin Forsett – SEA, RB – After his big game on Sunday (123 yards and a TD) Julius Jones should be worried about more than his injury. Forsett’s production against the 8th ranked Cardinals run Defense will not go unnoticed, especially after Jones averaged only 2.3 yards per carry against the 19th ranked run defense of Detroit a week earlier.
Jamaal Charles – KC, RB – He proved this Sunday (18 CAR, 103 YDS, 1 TD) that if he is given a shot, he will put up the numbers. He is averaging 5.4 YPC on the season, but this is playing the JAX and OAK (22nd and 26th against the run). Next week he plays against Pittsburgh (#1 against the run) and, still, for the Chiefs so you will want to sit him.
Jason Snelling – ATL, RB – After Michael Turner went down with a high ankle sprain, Snelling came in and produced 61 yards out of 18 carries (and 1 yd TD). The Falcons run the ball a ton, so even if Snelling is no Turner you will want to put a claim in for him until the extend of Turner’s injuries are known.
Roy Williams – DAL, WR – Williams was dropped in a lot of leagues due to his poor start, but he has started to pick his game back up in recent weeks. He had 5 receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. His touchdown was made with a few seconds left to avoid a shutout, but Tony Romo looked to him earlier in the redzone as well.
Dustin Keller – NYJ, TE – Keller has been targeted at least nine times in three of the Jets last four games. The fact that he’s only scored once this season might worry some owners, but as his receptions increase so will his redzone targets.
Twelve Teams
Robert Meachem – NO, WR – With Lance Moore out, Meachem has stepped up. He’s scored in each of his last two games, and I expect him to continue to produce considering he has Drew Brees running the offense.
Bernard Scott – CIN, RB – Benson is supposed to recover from his hip flexor strain enough to practice on a limited basis this week, but with Cincinnati playing Oakland next week (See Charles’ output) you may want to take a chance that the injury lingers. If Scott gets the start against OAK expect big numbers.
Justin Fargas – OAK, RB – Fargas might be back to being the Raiders’ backup now that Darren McFadden is (somewhat) healthy again, but he should continue to get the red zone touches and a touchdown here and there. At least for the next couple of weeks, expect Fargas and McFadden to get about the same amount of carries.
