We break down our weekly pickups by the size of the league because, well, it just doesn’t make sense otherwise. As with our Contentious Starts and Sits, please leave comments calling us out or adding to the list. If your thoughts are solid we will stick you words right in the post …
Eight Teams
Brent Celek – PHI, TE – Replace Owen Daniels with THIS guy. Celek’s numbers (37 receptions, 447 yards, 3 TDs) aren’t as great as Daniels’ were before he went down, but they aren’t that much worse. He’s been a top five fantasy TE basically all season. With the way the Eagles have been playing recently, expect him to move up that list.
Devin Hester – CHI, WR – Over his last three games, he has 21 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown. I never thought this guy would be a good receiver in the NFL, but he’s definitely proven me wrong.
Ten Teams
Michael Crabtree – SF, WR – The 49ers finally have a go-to receiver. Crabtree was targeted 9 times last game and came through in only his second NFL game with 6 receptions for 81 yards. Expect those numbers to go even further up in the coming weeks. And he’ll start scoring soon, too.
Jonathan Stewart – CAR, RB – Stewart has run for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns over his last three games. Carolina will continue to run the ball A LOT, so don’t be worried about DeAngelo Williams taking too many carries away from him.
Visanthe Shiancoe – MIN, TE – All this guy does is catch touchdown passes. Seriously. 22 receptions, 6 touchdowns. Pick this guy up and hope the Vikings get a couple of red zone opportunities each week.
Austin Collie – IND, WR – With 24 receptions and 4 TDs over his last four games, I think Peyton Manning likes this rookie. He’s not quite as productive as Wes Welker was a few seasons ago as a slot receiver, but I think that’s exactly what Indy wants to get out of him.
Twelve Teams
Jeremy Maclin – PHI, WR – Maclin’s now the #2 receiver on a pass-happy team, so his weekly production should only rise. He should definitely be targeted more the rest of the season as teams start to double-team DeSean Jackson more often.
Vince Young- TEN, QB – Young probably won’t pass for 3+ TDs in a single game this season, but he might throw two and rush for one a few times. Judging by the way he played against the Jags, he’s not going to take too many chances down field, so I wouldn’t worry about him throwing too many picks.
Ryan Moat – HOU, RB – Is he even going to come close to having a game like he had this past Sunday (123 yards, 3 TDs) ever again? Probably not. But he definitely should get plenty of touches the rest of the way (thanks to Steve Slaton’s sudden case of fumblitis), and chances are he’ll score on a few of them.
Joel Dreessen – HOU, TE – Matt Schaub likes to throw to his tight end, and Owen Daniels is done for the season. Daniels was targeted about 8 times per game, so don’t be surprised if Dreessen steps and and starts producing immediately.
