Fantasy Owners across the Country are either really depressed, or really impressed, with the way their team’s played over the weekend. The Weekly “Press” is your look at those players who did just that, impressed and depressed.
Obviously there a no-brainers that, that you start every week (i.e.- Brees, Brady, Peterson), so we’ll skip those, and get right to the players that you should considering starting, benching, cutting or picking up from the waiver wire. Here’s a list of players in each category that should be drawing your ire, or catching your attention….
IMPRESSED WITH:
Brett Favre (QB, Vikings)- The Vikings let Favre loose against his old team, and not only did he destroy the Packers, but he did it to the tune of 22 fantasy points.
Aaron Rodgers (QB, Packers)- Even though he was sacked about 40 times on Monday Night, the Packers’ QB impressed me with his poise on the road.
Ben Roethlisberger (QB, Steelers)- While everyone was over-valuing the likes of Carson Palmer and Matt Hasselbeck, Big Ben is currently the third highest rated QB in the game. Plus he took his offensive line to Monday Night Raw, which is kinda cool
Steve Slaton (RB, Texans)- Slaton finally found the endzone, and looks to be on track to shake his sophomore slump.
Joseph Addai (RB, Colts)- While it’s true that Donald Brown has impressed, his split of the carries also seems to be helping Addai. He catches a ton of passes as well, which makes up for a lot of the missed carries.
Rashard Mendenhall (RB, Steelers)- Mendenhall was benched two weeks ago, but in his first real start, he gained over 100 yards and added a score.
Brandon Marshall (WR, Broncos)- Had the TD of the week, and even gave Coach Josh McDaniel a hug after the game. All seems well in Denver.
Steve Smith (WR, Giants)- He’s officially Eli’s goto guy down the field, and might be a top five receiver at this point in the season. He even currently leads the league in yardage.
Mike Sims-Walker (WR, Jaguars)- Jacksonville went crazy on the Titans this past weekend and Sims-Walker was a huge part of that. He grabbed two TDs last week, and should be available in a lot of leagues.
Jerricho Cotchery (WR, Packers)- Cotchery doesn’t have many TDs, but he’s 4th in the league in yardage. If your league gives bonuses for 100 yards receiving he might be worth a start.
Marcedes Lewis (TE, Jacksonville)- You’re not going to be giving up on Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten, but Lewis is ahead of them both a quarter through the season.
DEPRESSED WITH:
Kerry Collins (QB, Titans)- Seemed like a great backup to start the season, but there is something seriously wrong with the Titans this year, and he good be benched soon.
LaDanian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles (RB, Chargers)- Sproles got zero carries in the game, and although Tomlinson appear healthy, he didn’t do anything either. Sure it was the Steelers, but I’d keep on eye on this situation in Week Five against the Broncos and decide who to play in Weeks Six and Seven (KC and OAK).
Darren McFadden (RB, Raiders)- Hasn’t produced, and just like in College….he’s hurt again.
Eddie Royal (WR, Broncos)- With Marshall back on track, Royal looks to be officially mired in a sophomore slump. Let’s see if he can get out of it like Slaton.
Steve Smith (WR, Panthers)- Unlike his namesake in New York, Smith just doesn’t have it. Sure a lot of it is Delhomme’s fault, but he’s just not the same receiver anymore.
Wes Welker (WR, Patriots)- Welker is getting his looks (six catches last week), but isn’t racking up the yards or points. Give the Pats a week or so to officially get on track before starting him again.
John Carlson (TE, Seahawks)- I was singing his praises after Week One, but he hasn’t done jack since then. In fact it might be time for a cut.
