Draft Primer: Know Thy Fantasy Player’s Injuries

Roy Williams: Late last night it was reported Williams might have broken his collarbone, which could have been a blow to an already weakened Dallas receiving corp. Word today is he only has a shoulder contusion. Draft him where you normally would.

Brandon Marshall: Suspended for being a dolt, Marshall’s status with the Broncos is tumultuous at best. Without Jay Cutler, his value was already down. I wouldn’t say he has reached “don’t draft” status, but be careful. McDaniels has made it clear he won’t take shenanigans like this lightly.

DeAngelo Williams: Another Williams comes up lame. It appears Williams is just resting a sore knee, so don’t worry too much, but you still ought to know he’s a little banged up.

Derrick Ward: It seemed Ward was destined to be Tampa Bay’s number one RB. If you watched the longest preseason game in history last night (Joe Buck was bored to death) you saw a Cadillac Williams back on the field looking spry on a 19 yard run. Today, the Bucs announced Willaims would have a major role in their offense. Running back by committee raises its ugly head once again.

Antonio Gates: Gates has missed three straight practices due to soreness.

Shonn Greene: If he was on your sleeper list, be aware he has cartilage damage in his ribs and is already going to miss the rest of the preseason.

Anquan Boldin: Has a strained hamstring. Outside of a torn ACL, the biggest fear of fantasy owners are toe injuries and the oft re-aggravated hammy.

Brian Westbrook: The fact that he didn’t play in the preseason game last night isn’t surprising. If you draft Westbrook, you already know the high risk high reward he brings to your team. Just be prepared to draft LeSean McCoy early and often.

Jonathan Stewart: Hurt Achilles and he hasn’t practiced much at all. Don’t stress if you don’t grab him as DeAngelo’s handcuff. Chances are he won’t stay healthy once he’s back.

Knowshon Moreno: Moreno quickly rose to the top of the rookie RB class, but he hasn’t played since injuring his knee against the 49ers in the first preseason game. I think Moreno can still contribute as a solid back up, but he won’t be as much of a factor early in the season as you might hope. The Broncos will take thier time in bringing him back.
