Just recently Zorn has announced that Ladell Betts is taking over 3rd down duties and is going to be seeing more work:
"We've already committed to him that he's going to be our third-down guy, so he wants to take ownership of that. And just to be prepared that if something happens to C.P., he's going to go in there and we're not going to miss a beat. He's been great. He's had a great camp."
Now I don’t think in the last few years people have gone into a draft wanting Clinton Portis. As a die hard Redskins fan, I think its fair to say you end up with Clinton Portis. Don’t get me wrong, Portis is a fantastic back, but with a team short on talent, you just know he is going to wear down from carrying them on his back. Zorn is “conscientious” of this though after finishing the ‘08 season 2-6:
“I know that I need to be very conscientious about how much I use Clinton [Portis] because I have to have Clinton the whole year. Ladell is a very capable running back that could start in situations around this league and we look forward to having him accent what we are doing on offense.”
Having already slid out of the RB Top 10 on most draft sheets, news of losing carries may make his stock plummet. If he can stay healthy because of this new arrangement though, he just might end up becoming one of the steals of the year.
